A Message From Aleppo
As we usher in December 2024, we find ourselves faced with the harsh realities of a renewed conflict in Aleppo, Syria. The recent occupation of the city by jihadists from the group “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham”, has cast a long shadow over an already beleaguered population. The events of November 29th mark a significant and alarming escalation in the ongoing humanitarian crisis that demands our immediate attention and action.
The jihadists have taken control without much resistance. The speed and intensity of this takeover were shocking; Syrian armed forces fled, leaving residents to contend with an uncertain and frightening future. According to reports from locals, fear is palpable. One resident expressed the sentiment shared by many: “The people of Aleppo are scared.”
Since the takeover, a curfew has been imposed, and everyday life has come to a near standstill. The once-bustling streets are now filled with uncertainty and eerie silence. Businesses and restaurants are mostly closed, and residents struggle to find basic supplies. Only a handful of grocery stores have managed to operate amidst the chaos, and those brave enough to venture out do so with trepidation.
As night falls, the fear intensifies. Residents are in desperate situations, with the temperature dropping to freezing levels and essential services like electricity severely limited. Many families are left without heating, forced to endure the bitter cold while relying on rationed fuel supplies. The simple act of staying warm becomes a struggle, as community members report that they must huddle together for warmth, fearing both the cold and the unknown dangers outside.
This dire situation is particularly harrowing for children and women, who are disproportionately affected by such conflicts. The loss of security and the threat posed by extremist groups put vulnerable populations at increased risk of violence and exploitation. The humanitarian needs have never been greater, and this is where we can make a difference.
We ask you to join us in responding to this emergency. Your donations can directly support efforts focused on providing critical aid to those most in need—specifically children and women who face the brunt of this turmoil. Contributions can help supply essential items like food, blankets, and medical care. Additionally, we can support safe spaces for women and children, giving them a reprieve from the violence surrounding them.
As we reflect on the resilience of the people of Aleppo, we are reminded of the strength and courage they exhibit daily. However, they cannot do this alone. They need our compassion, our solidarity, and our support.
Consider making a contribution today to help those who are suffering the most in Aleppo. Together, we can light a spark of hope in a place engulfed in darkness. Thank you for standing with us in these challenging times. Your support truly makes a world of difference.
