Hope and Homes for Aleppo
At dawn on February 6th, a devastating earthquake hit Aleppo, leaving behind destruction and countless homeless families. This tragedy struck a city already worn down by 12 years of brutal war, wiping out 50% of its infrastructure and causing severe economic, humanitarian, and social crises. Immediately, rescue teams, government agencies, and local organizations sprang into action, focusing on providing food, water, winter blankets, and clothes. But what about shelter?
That’s where my friends and I decided to step in. We aimed to offer something crucial yet overlooked: helping those affected find new homes and covering their rent for a year. I reached out to friends abroad, who were enthusiastic about this initiative since it addressed a fundamental need that many local organizations were missing.
After two months of hard work, we secured housing for around 100 families.
In June, I contacted a charity in As-Suwayda. They informed me that over 150 Aleppo families displaced to As-Suwayda were facing severe economic hardship. Through coordination with Crete for Life, we provided cash assistance to many of them just before Eid al-Adha.
Now, nine months after the earthquake, the economic situation has deteriorated further due to the gradual collapse of the currency, escalating famine and poverty in Aleppo. As we brace for a harsh winter, we are currently collecting donations to provide winter coats for children. Most families can’t afford even one coat due to a 100% increase in clothing prices compared to last year. Your help would mean so much to these children and to us.
